"No, they're trying to fly the tank"

Minimum knowledge requirement on subject matter used to be laid down in the joining instructions.
Time for another break I think......

My advice for anyone going on a Pot NCO is to work with an NCO at unit level. Ideally a unit run Pre Pot NCO course

Reserve going on his posts in the Southern Brigade recruit camp thread.
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Not required for potential officers course. Indeed knowledge of same may be a disadvantage.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Back up there. Someone's got to do the paperwork.

Sort of - They are officially known as DF Fitness Tests. The word "Life Tests" are also used officially but rarely. Not sure what "ITs" actually means but think it is only a colloquial name.

When first introduced, in the 80s/early 90s, they were called LIFE tests (an abbreviation of course for what I don't know).

AFAIK, "ITs" is the Irish abbreviation for Training Instruction (eg TI 07/11).

IT - unless my memory is fading - is short for Imlitir Treanála (Training Instruction), as Dev said

I think LIFE stood for Life Improvement and Fitness Evaluation

Life tests is the term used on the PMS
Life tests are more than the ITs though, they also include hearing, eyesight and spyro.
Your medical grade is a number comprised of your 2-digit year of birth followed a single digit for how you did in each test.
