Good point. Would imagine a discount for ordering a large amount though.
Transport budget must be one of the bigger ones in the DF.
There are general budgets and then there are times that extra money is made available for special projects.
I am reliably informed that extra money was made available, ring-fenced for this special project. None of the three new fleets under procurement this year are coming from the small budget allocated to transport

That happens a bit alright. P64 was an example of that.

Should have been the case since before the Patrol GR.
Worth noting however that like everyone else, Toyota is cancelling the Land Cruiser in 2022. Whether a total redesign happens then, or like the Pajero and Patrol, it will no loger be manfactured, remains to be seen.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

Would servicing, repairs NCT etc be handled in-house, done by Toyota as an extra cost, or be part of the €11 million deal (for a few years, anyway)?
If they follow previous precedent (Hyundai i30 & i40) all servicing during warranty would be carried out by manufacturer, but at an extra cost. After that ?? who knows.

My understanding is that the Landcruiser is being withdrawn from the US market in 2022. Remember, the Landcruiser sold there is the top spec model with a thirsty petrol engine, not the utilitarian version sold elsewhere. The issue is, theres only a few thousand dollars between the landcruiser and the competing Lexus and they sell about 5000 a year in the entire USA. Its very much a niche vehicle for genuine offroad enthusiasts over there.
Online sources point towards the next generation of Landcruiser appearing late 2020 to 2021, however we can't afford to wait. The plus side to this, is that the current generation has been around for the best part of a decade or more, so there are plenty of parts available now and going forward.
Ref the AUV fleet - these have been heavily customised by centigon, so parts commonality mightn't be as great as may initially appear, I understand that the armour the vehicles a lot of things have to be pulled out, and when they were put back together, it wasn't necessarily Toyota parts that went back in. If the teething problems are sorted, then they will hopefully give good service over the next decade - they're certainly miles ahead of the old centigon nissan patrols.
When you look at the requirements, they include stuff like:
- NATO lighting for 61 vehicles
- all fitted as FFR (does that mean 24v alternator?)
- 100 with removable radio racking
- Motorola wiring
- NATO tow hitch
