  • Trooping the Colour.

    Hello Chaps,

The Grenadier Guards, Nijmegen Company, trooped their colour today as HM turned 88. As always it was a fantastic parade! I hope some of you guys where able to tune in to the BBC broadcast. If not I'm sure you can catch highlights on you tube.

No concentration of Irish Guardsmen on parade as they are currently in Cyprus but a large part of the band was from the Band of the Irish Guards.

    Happy Birthday HM!

A bit more substantial. My favorite part of the Trooping is always the music more so the foot-drill.

Did the Officer mess up before taking the colour? Sounded like he was giving a prep order to turn, but gave a change arms instead, and looked as if he made an "oh ****" noise.

I love "les Hugenot" myself. As long as the band leader has the strongest Scottish accent possible of course.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

After the ensign takes the colour and returns to the escort, the Officer in charge of them, does make a mistake. He forgets to order the change arms until midway through the advance order. That said he corrected himself fairly quickly and I doubt ''lay people'' would notice, he only falls victim to the dreaded armchair viewers like me at home, the RSM later on and ofcourse the Queen herself who is apparently a stickler for getting things correct.

Incidentally here is the full parade uploaded in HD for anybody who wishes to watch it . : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIbAk054fSQ

When two or more Soldiers stand at attention a mistake will occur. The lads are humans not robots, the mark of a Soldier is how you overcome the mistake. I think the chap overcame it brilliantly.

Well done to next doors Military, once again a mightly impressive turn out.

Sophie Countess of Wessex has been duly appointed as the one who would get the good news for the month of July.

SD2 Trouser and Multicam smock looks a tad odd.....

As for Capt Nairc, controversial character in his time and even decades after his death........

King's troop at the trot,,,,bloody awesome! Make the hair stand up on the back of yer neck.

Question! The equitation school in the DF, do they have a ceremonial role? Or is it purely showjumping and all that carry-on?

Would seem a shame not to use all that horse flesh and riders in something military orientated on parades etc. "The presidents troop" or "The Commander in Chief's troop". Not got a bad ring to it.

                    Don't mention the war!!!!

The closest we cam to this was the Blue Huzzars, which were the presidential escort prior to the motorcycle escort provided by 2 Cavalry Squadron,

The Blue huzzars were drawn from the Artillery corps.

The Equitation school are reserved to the show jumping type event.

In the 90s there was a proposal to re activate a Horse mounted escort. Expressions of interest were sought for riders outside the equitation school but it came to nothing.

For those who might be interested.

I'm personally going to try and go- but I would be more interested in the review by the Prince.

Ticket ballot for Trooping the Colour in June 2017 opens today. The Colour will be trooped by 1st Bn. Irish Guards.
