    €80m worth of cocaine seized after armed Navy team storm yacht

    The yacht was boarded some 20km off the Cork coast before lunchtime today.

    The boarding took place after the Naval Service had been on standby for the yacht’s arrival off the Irish coast since last Sunday.

    The intelligence about the vessel came from the Lisbon-based Maritime Analysis Operations Centre-Narcotics (MAOCN).

    An armed Navy boarding team from the LE Roisin led the operation with the occupants of the yacht not putting up any resistance.

    A second Naval Service vessel, LE Niamh, was in the area for support.

    The yacht was then taken under escort to Cork harbour.

    It is expected to berth at Haulbowline Naval Base later tonight where a detailed search operation will be conducted.

    Three arrests were made when the yacht was boarded in Irish territorial waters.

    And I suppose the two Coast Guard Cutters will be waiting inside the safe confines of Cork harbour ready to jump on the PR bandwagon .

    Wouldn't that require one to leave Waterford? One will do!

    The PR seems to have kicked off already going by the releases above claiming the actual boarding done by different units.

    Well done Navy, AC and JTF. A professional, combined, joint operation with good Opsec (not a word about it until 24 hrs later giving time for shore-side follow up). That's the way to do it!

    So the next time someone (disgruntled CHC employee or otherwise) complains about only having a Lear for Top Cover remember that a CASA may be otherwise occupied or on standby and you won't be reading why on the AC Facebook page.

    Good job all.

    This is why we need a bigger, more modern Navy.

    Well done to our Naval Service and to our Aer Corps.
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    Question for you guys, it said on RTE news last night that custody of the yacht was handed over to the Garda when at sea, I thought the Navy has control of our waters and not the civil services.

    It has control of our waters, but law enforcement is still the job of the Gardaí. I assume the NS hand over the ship and crew so the GS can commence the criminal investigation. the NS does not have the resources to do this alone.

    If CJ were alive, he would have boarded the yacht carrying his Dingle shotgun, Skippered the thing singlehandedly back to the Base, and still been able to hit Paidi's pub for a few swift pints, some sexing of some local ladies and some regaling of the locals, before the film crew finished up.
