Hopefully the powers that be will look at that article and the unqualified a******n's of uniform's that are NWU 1 and the Aussie's new NAMCU and realise that they are NOT "International best practice" and wadi the idea.
Look at the recent pics of the Captain of the Roisin meeting the Italians and Maltese.Now.Those are modern naval uniforms.

Sounds like the US Army's ACU debacle. Going through Atlanta Airport, I saw US Army personnel transiting in a mix of uniforms - ACU and Multicam. And that was just the Army. The Marines have Marpat
I think that they are going to use the US Army's new multicam uniform, while developing something for shipboard use that will end up looking like the RN's PCS uniform of solid blue.

    Total gang****.

No.The article said they are sticking with NWU 3, which is the Navy's version of a woodland DPM,for shore roles.Much like the system our NS has at the moment for some of their roles.

NWU Type 3 seems to be a US Navy version of USMC Marpat

Looking at the variety of uniforms the RN have to have available (all 50 pages of them), there goes the €13 billion in just supplying them!
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
    Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

Hey it could be worse, how much has the US thrown away in the last 2 decades on new uniforms? Seems they are always announcing a replacement for one or the other.

DPM in colours that don't blend in with the environment except when you're on a ship or in the water seems...silly.
US Navy uniform looks terrible, except at the bottom of an aquarium where you can't see it. RAN version of Aussiecam is pointless. You don't need camouflage on a ship or boarding one, and sailors aren't marines.

Stupidly, despite the likes of the USN withdrawing their "blueberries" our NS are ploughing ahead with this crazy idea.By all means update the uniform but this "DPM" is pointless,a waste of taxpayers money and is going to look w**k!

    .

Disruptive Pattern in Naval Service is contraindicated in that you are not trying to camouflage your crews in their shipboard environs. In general the range of uniforms, for all occasions, needs to be photographically laid down, for all ranks and genders. The current idea for working dress, with service and rank markings is ok but at times looks like I made them on a second hand sewing machine. The new RN working rig range of clothing looks ok with fire retardent, and light waterproofing features.
On overseas duties naval ratings could wear common DPM as worn in the unit. However visiting , inspecting naval personnel, should wear Naval clothing appropriate to the occasion.

After a quick play around with photoshop, could we be left with something like this in theory?

    Attachment 8336
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Don't know as your "photoshop" didn't turn up. Problem about producing uniform/dress changes is that often the decision is already made on too narrow a focus and the board just follow the popular style of the moment.

The people of England have been led in Mesopotamia into a trap from which it will be hard to escape with dignity and honour. They have been tricked into it by a steady withholding of information. The Baghdad communiqués are belated, insincere, incomplete.....It is a disgrace to our imperial record, and may soon be too inflamed for any ordinary cure.We are to-day not far from a disaster.

Pointless and futile waste of money. Rather a dark blue outfit for all ranks to include work/watch jacket , fleece, cap, variety of gloves, all fire retardant and water repellent.
