    Doubtful, because it's the 28th already. And especially doubtful because it's not really that big a deal anyway.

    Huge fuss over nothing.

      Oh he has that look about him does he?? It's not one I recognize myself I must admit.

      Slagging is one thing but a blanket judgement like this based on something so insignificant says more about you than him to be fair.

        Well once again the people on here are quick to knock one of our own, looking at the Independent online it looks like the DF have no problem with him, typical of some on here lets kick our own.

            Getting away from the Rupert with his hands in his pockets for a minute, ( he's an officer, you don't hold them to the same standards, everybody knows that!), I caught about half an hour on Sky yesterday between trains (somebody had to get the Great British Public to London). From the GOH inspection to the wreath laying.

            You all looked great! I was sitting in the mess room, and a few comments were passed about how good it looked (along with a few WTF is this, I soon educated them!).

            Well done to all, including the back party who I'm sure did a lot of work but didn't have the honour of parading.
            'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
            'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
            Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
            He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

              I was in town today; very good display at Smithfield; Mowags, LTAVs, 105s and Viking.....105s had breech blocks removed in case anyone got ideas! Everybody well turned out and giving great gen to public, despite obviously getting asked same questions over and over...well done to all concerned.

                    Dear god - it's a revelation watching the ceremony without the RTE commentary!

                      Is there a nice little list of all the shite rte were on about?
                      I knew a simple soldier boy.....
                      Who grinned at life in empty joy,
                      Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
                      And whistled early with the lark.

                      In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
                      With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
                      He put a bullet through his brain.
                      And no one spoke of him again.

                      You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
                      Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
                      Sneak home and pray you'll never know
                      The hell where youth and laughter go.

                        Different strokes for different folks.Trained soldiers in the DF only swing their arms waist belt high when marching.Recruits swing them shoulder high.
                        "Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

                          I see nothing wrong with, and fully support the idea that all serving members of the Defence Forces (P and R DF) receive a medal to celebrate the 100 yrs.

                          Why do we have this false fascination with saying medals are only to commenorate a trip over seas or staying in a job for x amount of time.

                          I do however think that the Military Policeman who sang last nights National Anthem in the Aviva should get a special medal for singing the National Anthem the best and most respectful way ever . Well done to him and the rest of the lads.
                          Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
                          Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
                          The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                          The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
                          The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                          Are full of passionate intensity.

                            "He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
                            "No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

                              Actually, he didn't. And the numbers for the GPO garrison aren't wrong. You need to account for those who were in outposts, who arrived over the course of the wee, or were sent on as reinforcements to other garrisons.
