Can't have pilots without techies. Same ratio?

You would then need 18 aircraft in the fleet so as to have those 24 pilots qualified as Basic Mission Ready based on the 1:1.25 ratio if you were trying an RAF level QRA capability.

For the aircraft ground crew the quick answer is yes as they will be covering the same times.
For depot level maintenance the level of techies is determined by the number of aircraft.

    And Ireland for that matter.

The number of techncial personnel is not determined by the number of aircraft, rather by the size of the entire system. Lads turning spanners per hull, on the ramp, assuming nothing goes pear shaped on the turnaround, is around three or four; engineering staff dealing with tech stuff in the head office is probably the same again. You are dealing with airworthiness/modifcations/armament/overhaul/engine and airframe structural specialists and so on.Now,you can buy in a lot of that as part of the package,ie, you lease the Gripen, you get the Swedish shed-dwellers to deal with the indoor engineering and let the Irish do the ramp stuff. Hangar work soaks up manpower like you wouldn't believe and if you are getting into fitting out and manning workshops for overhauling subassemblies like pumps, valves, motors and so,then you start ramping up the manpower requirement like crazy, which is where the accountants start whining and the Minister starts tapping the table and the other capbadges start making snide remarks about costs. So,you have to think carefully about what you buy in.

Sounds like the RAF had to intercept a Ryanair Poland-Dublin flight today over North Sea

What would happen if just before entering IAA controlled airspace a Russian Bear turned on his transponder, contacted Shannon Control saying he was an unarmed aircraft on a navigation exercise and would like to transit across Ireland?

Would the trailing armed RAF Typhoons be able to do the same?

What is the likelihood of either aircraft being unarmed?

It might be unarmed with traditional weapons, but "armed" with electronic warfare, sigint and comint gear. Which is becoming more of an issue for force planners in the air defence domain.

Let's just remindourselves what one of the most recent visitors from Russia was up to over the Porcupine Bank.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that Russian Subs were in the area specifically, just the North East Atlantic

Legally there is a big difference traditionally armed aircraft and one which has sigint and comint gear.

So the controller could allow the Bear to cross Irish sovereign airspace and not allow the Typhoons to follow.
If that was the case the RAF would be having kittens while the Russian play.
