      True

But I meant stick that technology on the C295s

      • CAE are offering a lightweight boom mounted MAD for the Saab Swordfish. The idea of a towed MAD was for a long time standard on USN ASW helicopters, the SH3 Sea King had one installed on the Starboard sponson:

On the SH60B the towed MAD, the ASQ-81 was also mounted on the Starboard side but it was left off the newer MH60R helicopters:

He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

              Nice virtual tour.

Strange to think these are to replace the CAF CC-115 Buffalos.

              • France will shortly contract Dassault to supply the first seven of an eventual 12 Falcon 2000LXS-based maritime surveillance aircraft under its AVSIMAR programme.

Wonder would it be possible to get Beeb 2 on it?

The MPA's on order for IAC is to have 15m Euro of updates of a nature ( Military) to improve their effectiveness on task. It goes without saying that MPA's should have 360 deg surveillance by radar, AIS display, a range of EO aids with infrared, Marine communications to speak /listen to surface ships, submarine detection capability, launchable defensive systems ( decoys), provide aid to a vessel in distress using droppable liferafts.

                      • I'm just reacting to a proposed extra expenditure request for our replacement MPA's. There is a need to go beyond being a spectator and a 15m budget might provide airborne systems to include submarine detection which is the principal role of an MPA. Defensive schemes such as decoys AND response weapons are common "fitted for" elements on MPAs. It's a suggestion NOT sure what the money will be spent on. Some are fitted with billeting and catering for overnight or longer waiting at distant airfields.

                        • Ken Foxe is going fantastic work publicising the efforts the DoD went through to castrate any military capability of the defence Forces. This is the latest on their reluctance to include the defensive suite usually found on aircraft in this role.
Department of Defence sensitivities over installation of “defensive aid suites” in order for two new €110 million aircraft

The Department of Defence recommended spending over €15 million adding defensive equipment to a new aircraft order but were worried it might be seen as policy approval for use in “possible hostile scenarios”.

Internal memos – released by the department – reveal how there were high-level discussions over whether two new C295 aircraft should be fitted with a suite of equipment to protect it in the event of attack.

However, the Department were at pains to say this was not confirmation that the two maritime patrol aircraft might be used in “possible future deployments to conflict zones”.

The two airplanes are currently on order from Airbus Defence and Space manufacturing facilities in Spain with planned delivery dates of March and July 2023.

These submissions were released to Right to Know following an appeal to the Information Commissioner.

You can read the decision here; it makes some important points about public bodies over-reaching with exemptions for cabinet confidentiality.

                            Ireland doesn’t future proof

I see DAS is mentioned but not ASW?

Steady on now! Last time the Irish defence Forces had torpedoes was during the Emergency. ASW equipment on an aircraft would only see a requirement to follow up with ASW capable ships on the Sea, and who knows where that would end up? ASW Helicopters? Submarines to train the ASW Planes, Ships and Helicopters with? What about the resale value? Thats a dangerous road....

                              • Submarine detection capability is a distance from torpedoes. MPA's should be able to close some of the gaps in our Defences post deletion of CDA and Coast watching. Is Spanish build a fact ,as the current information is that builds are transferred to new owners in Indonesia.
