  • Shows where the power lies in Defence.

Hanger space is the most galling and inaccurate excuse, the hanger in No. 1 used to house both CASA's, the Lear, and the largest bay was used for the GIV, the Defender and some Cessnas were also squeezed in. As it stands the large GIV bay must be empty, I have no doubt there is plenty of space for quite a few PC-12's in that bay.

There are other hangers on the airfield and they aren't exactly bursting at the seams with machines.

It also said purchase of both planes "would impact on pilot availability, particularly in light of pilot training requirements".

More annoying guff, more airframes, means more flying hours available, means more pilots gain experience more quickly..

    • Hey we are talking about the institution that could not fly two officers out of the DRC because a flight plan with 5 refuelling stops was impossible to implement.

      • The upshot is the type of decision making of the GenSec DoD and the damage it does to the DF is being exposed by people like Ken Foxe.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

        • Absolutely appalling and one of many incredible offers that have been turned down over the years . FOI to find the numbers employed in DoD in relation to the actual PDF since 1998 . Major overhaul and fit for purpose examination is urgently required. Lions led by donkeys.

Look at the DoD organisation chart in the Ministers Brief, It looks so fractured that its like it designed so that any decisions that have to be made in regards to defence (no matter how small or simple) has to go through multiple PO/AstSec and ultimately through the GenSec.
It was the year of fire...the year of destruction...the year we took back what was ours.
It was the year of rebirth...the year of great sadness...the year of pain...and the year of joy.
It was a new age...It was the end of history.
It was the year everything changed.

            • It looks like the purpose of the plane as far as DoD is concerned is for ministerial transport, and no other use envisioned.
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
              Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

That may have been the selling point needed to get it (or anything) past the SecGen.
I'd say the cargo door has been used as often as the passenger door since the PC12 arrived though.

                • Given how much activity the one PC12 has been up to since we got it, it's a shame but not surprising the DOD turned down the offer for two for only a tiny bit more. When you think about the fact that the air frame is going to be in service for 30 plus years most likely the excuses scream BS.

                    Shocking, but not surprising.

                      • Possibly what's being installed in the PC12 in the USA or some other random personal info not subject to FOI.

If you can read the entire thread on Twitter, that is only the beginning.
We could have got two for the same amount the DoD expects to return to the exchequer at the end of the year. It's there in black and white.

Which shows that two would have been utilised.

                              • Interesting that the "Director of Emergency, Operations & Infrastucture Oversight" in the DoD doesn't seem to be in on any of the emails published.
