You'll never make enough money out of it to make it a full time job. To be brutally honest, you'll probably come out with a net loss.
It's a great experience, just don't rely on the money.
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.
In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.
As mentioned, RDF is Reserve Defence Forces - a mostly unpaid voluntary role, yes you get a uniform, but you only parade once a week for 2 hours, and unless you participate in a paid course or training exercise which may last a couple of weeks, or do a duty, you mostly dont get paid.
PDF - Permanent Defence Forces.... This is made up of full time soldiers and they are paid public servants, the full time branch of the defence forces are not currently recruiting general service, however here the is the page to watch as recruitment happens a couple of times a year there.
Defence Forces personnel lead a "Life less Ordinary". All aspects of military life are varied and for each member of the Force each day may bring a new challenge.
best of luck in the future.
