  • Lt Col (AR) Pat Holahan (rtd) aka Vickers

    It has been reported on RDFRA's Facebook page that Lt Col Pat Holahan has died. Pat was a former member of 21 Bn and the first reserve EO of 2 Bde. He had been suffering from cancer for a long time. Pat would be known to us here on IMO as Vickers, the owner of the site. To me he was a great officer, an inspirational leader and a good friend.

    Details of the funeral arrangements are not yet known, we will post them when they are published.

      Devastating news.
      May he rest in peace.
      For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

        RIP Sir.

        God speed and God Bless.
        "Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

                'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
                'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
                Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
                He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

                            "No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

                              RIP
                              It was the year of fire...the year of destruction...the year we took back what was ours.
                              It was the year of rebirth...the year of great sadness...the year of pain...and the year of joy.
                              It was a new age...It was the end of history.
                              It was the year everything changed.
