I did point that out to the friend, and his response was "whatever, it's still not a warship!"

To some, what constitutes a warship normally involves some illogial connection to actually having been involved in a war, or missiles. The same would be the type to say we don't have an army, we have a "defense force" (sic).
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

I'm not sticking up for the DUP...but with respect, you're very, very wrong about that.

Also GTTC's point about the DUP and fisheries...again, with respect way off the mark.

They've probably done more lobbying on behalf of NI fishermen than any of the rest of our elected politicians.

My humble opinion is that this whole sorry episode was a case of a sledgehammer being used to crack a nut...at least the Magistrate had the decency to show some courtesy and common sense.

To be fair, the DUP MEPs have always been very active for all their constituents. Big Ian was famous for it.

Could have been worse.. we could have taken the MEOs suggestion and put an oxy acetelene set in a sea rider and tried to put holes in it.. after we had filled it full of 20mm, ruled out the 57mm as we were to close to shore and a missed round would have inshore at a radid rate of knots.......the now director of the ICG wanted to blow holes it it.... but dawned on him we had no explosives on board..... March 1988!

To your credit ,you did hit it repeatedly.

That's true; he never shirked from doing his duty for Catholic constituents and in the same vein, the Shinners have always made a point of doing their level best for Protestant constituents. Works both ways.

Also gives the impression of "gunboat diplomacy" although the timing is anything but diplomatic!

DUP's support for Brexit is accidental, they didn't really have a policy on leaving the EU just like Sin Feinn weren't huge supporters of the EU until recently, the two sides are simply scrabbling for their flags as usual as that's what their power base expects them to do.

The failure to reopen Stormont isn't the DUP's though. SF collapsed the Assembly. The military commander(according to the San Francisco Mayor London Breed) Martin McGuiness.

The suspension of the Stormont assembly was fortuitous for subsequent Brexit dealings vis a vis the backstop. It left the DUP in the driving seat as the only voice for the citizens of Northern 6 Counties, and a weighted vote for yeah or nay in the House of commons. It fitted in with the politics of Villiers, Bradley, and Brokenshire to mention a few who had been NI Secretaries. I wonder is fortuitous and dirty tricks the same??
