    Question Ebola Medal

I know that the International Operational Service Medal was created after the UK had offered the Irish contingent on Operation Gritrock in Sierra Leone the Ebola Medal for Service in West Africa, presumably because the governement didn't want Irish troops wearing UK medals, but I've heard that the Irish troops still received the medals just can't wear them. Any truth in this or is it all just scuttlebutt?

Medals were presented to Irish and UK personnel at a ceremony in I think Catterick or nearby. There are one or two pictures on IMO of the event. Dev will have more info.

The medals were issued to Irish personnel as Orion pointed out. The international operational service medal was created after the NS started taking part in the Mediterranean missions, it also covered operations such as Orion. You need permission to wear all medals issued by other organisations and there is a process for applying for such permission. I have no idea if anyone was refused permission to wear it but there is less resistance to this sort of thing than was in the past.

Front of the ebola medal has QEII's head on it. Would that wind people in DF now or have we gone past that kind of thing?

Nobody looks at medals. They look at ribbons.
German 1: Private Schnutz, I have bad news for you.
    German 2: Private? I am a general!
German 1: That is the bad news.
