And what was the other 4 and a half acres used for?
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

It was a training field. The land is owned by the Dept. Sad to see the asset go, it was the last RDF post in Wicklow

The WHOLE Rockbrae House footprint is being sold? Or just part of it?

All the land that DoD is responsible for is being transferred (ie zero cost) from DoD to Wicklow CC for housing

There are 2 basic parts to the land - the house (the drive, lodge, outhouses and main house) and the (roughly L shaped) field.

I always remember seeing that the house was on a long term lease but maybe they do own it. The assumption was the field was part of it.

I could be completely wrong but I was told not all that long ago that it was discovered that the field was actually owned by Wicklow CC

St Bricin’s is another site that will probably be confiscated from the Army, a site worth several million on the open market.

The part-time Minister for Defence has indicated that a new medical facility will be built at Baldonnel.
Millions will have to be taken from other defence projects to pay for it.

A new medical facility at the Don would probably not be a bad idea for accessibility purposes, relatively close to the M50.

Granted, funding may be an issue, but given that Bricin's was slated for closure anyway, the footprint would fetch a pretty penny for the property market, so might well be cost neutral overall.

Agree that in the short term, the €€€ would have to be found to build the new facility first. Would co locating be an option (say for instance if there was footprint available in Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown)?

Just so long as the proposed new facility is in place BEFORE the gate is closed on Bricins for the last time.

So long as the same fk ups aren't made as were made with the National Childrens' Hospital (green fieid site offered near the M50 but twice decided to plank it in the middle of the city)

Look back at the last land disposals

AFAIK they still havent managed to unload Mullingar. Colaiste Caomhin they were out like a flash; Remember they took a slice out of Bricins about 10 years ago was never built on due McNamara going into NAMA. Go into Clancy now and its packed to the walls with Aparments, same with Beggars bush.

Does anyone remember when Michael Smith, Minister at the time actually closed a lot of barracks and ploughed the money into the APC fleet. DOD had to beg people to take Clancy off their hands way back when.

Any time DOD land is disposed its worth keeping an eye on

Doesn’t necessarily have to be in Dublin but co-location (or close to) is definitely the way to go. Given that the vast majority of the CMU services are GP centred it could even be a primary care centre.

The major question is do we want CMU HQ, Med Sch and LBH co-located ?

St Bricin’s is certainly worth several million on the open market but it's very likely it'll be confiscated from the Army, even before a new medical facility can be built and without it receiving a penny in return.
The indication from the part-time MfD that the new facility will be built at Baldonnel could also spell the end of the Curragh hospital.

Afaik CMH doesn’t have inpatients they are sent to Naas

Tongue in cheek that it could be a new hospital

Politicians will be all over it like a cheap suit to cash in on Bricins being civilianised. the DF will get sod all out of it, in real terms.
