Its not him, its the dept. On twitter they posted a dead link to the press release also. They don't care.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

      • €8m for MMF at Casement is suggesting a build from scratch. And not before time TBH, as the facility is badly needed
"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"

Interesting to see where this goes*Physically and otherwise). Having it at Bal opens up opportunities down the road for more adventurous flying.

Over €10m in total will be spent at Baldonnel as a result of the confiscation of St Bricin’s.
The location at Baldonnel suits very few as it's further away from all the barracks it serviced and for most of its personnel it will mean a longer and more expensive commute. I can see a lot of people transferring out.
The future of the Curragh hospital could be uncertain giving its state and being on the same road as Baldonnel.
The only real winner here is the Air Corps.
There is no mention of a new home for the printing press.

              • Former Defence Minister claims Dublin Cathal Brugha army barracks needed in event of terrorist attack on city

A FORMER Defence Minister has claimed Cathal Brugha army barracks in Dublin must be saved as it is a strategic location needed in the event of a terrorist attack on the Capital.

Earlier this week, the Government announced plans to carry out a feasibility study on removing the Defence Forces from the Cathal Brugha site to make way for a major housing project.

Green Party leader Eamon Ryan sparked fury among the Defence Forces when he said the land was needed for housing and talked about plans to build 1,000 social and affordable homes on the site.

The Irish Sun can reveal that the feasibility study will take 12 months and will examine the cost benefit analysis of moving the army out of Cathal Brugha to another city centre location or another site on the outskirts of the city.

Former Defence Minister Paul Kehoe told the Irish Sun that plans to take the army out of Cathal Brugha should be scrapped as it is a key location that enables the Defence Forces to respond in case of a terrorist attack.

                'TOTALLY OPPOSED'

He said: “I am absolutely totally opposed to the barracks being replaced with housing.

“Cathal Brugha barracks is a strategic location within the city of Dublin. In the future, you never know what sort of threats the State may have.

“We have seen these attacks in a lot of cities right across Europe and across the world and I believe we have to be able to have a rapid reaction force ready.

“Cathal Brugha barracks is a strategic location for the city to be able to accommodate such a rapid reaction.”

Wexford TD Paul Kehoe previously shot down an attempt to take the Defence Forces out of Cathal Brugha barracks in 2018 when he was Defence Minister.

The Fine Gael TD said he plans to speak with current Defence Minister Simon Coveney to urge him not to allow the Dublin base to be replaced with housing.

He told the Irish Sun: “I would have met the Chief of Staff at the time and a lot of the senior officers and they would have come to me personally with their concerns.

'NOT GOING TO SOLVE THE HOUSING CRISIS'

“There was talk about possible threats and possible attacks and everything like that and I went back to the Department of Housing at the time and said ‘it’s not happening, it won’t be happening, there will be huge resistance.’

“Putting houses in Cathal Brugha barracks is not going to solve the housing crisis.

“Just because there’s a strategic plan, a government plan, you don’t just take it over to build houses to accomodate people.

“There is plenty of other space in other parts of the city and outside the city - and the city is expanding - where housing can be built.”

                SERIOUS CONCERNS

The former Minister said members of the Defence Forces have reached out to him in recent days with serious concerns about plans to take over the barracks.

He said the announcement about the feasibility study was “handled wrong” and told the Irish Sun he will be voicing his concerns with his Government colleagues.

He said: “People say ‘you could have them anywhere’, but no you can’t actually. You have to have some place where helicopters can land within the city.”

A spokesperson for the Defence Forces told the Irish Sun the feasibility study will commence shortly and “is not a statement of intent” regarding the site.

She said: “This is an exploratory exercise only - this exercise is not a statement of intent regarding the relocation of Cathal Brugha Barracks.”
