While looking back our the historic aircraft of the Air Corps I came across the story of N18 a Supermarine Walrus which I had never heard of, perhaps it is of some interest. Today the aircraft is on display in the UK at the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum.
I've tried to research the Air Corps pilot who absconded with the other fellows, he was interviewed by Marianne Finucane years ago on RTE. I believe they intended to head to Jersey instead of Cherbourg. He went on to fly Spitfires (or possibly Tempests) in the Balkans for the RAF.
If anyone knows anything about his later service in the RAF in the Balkans I'd be interested to hear about it!
