Me too. A great ole Bike, and the Army ones have never been driven hard. Good ole MPs doin speed traps to catch the Brugha Bikers. My Bike test was possibly the most tedious drive ever. Most bikes hit 50mph in first gear!

        • Mate of mine in the Traffic Corps used to use one. He loved it. Be nice to have one for myself if the Amb service ever roll them out across the country like they were supposed to years ago!

Any idea what kind of shillings a 5 or 6 year old one would set you back these days??

          • The Army ones should be selling for about 2500.
You'd pick up a decent one on the civvy market for not less than 6k. People just don't part with them until they are well past it.
Much lighter to drive than you would expect from a 650cc tourer. Feels more like a 250, but a fantastic all rounder.
The Garda ones, when they are sold, are knackered. Most have serious subframe damage, due to the lollipop and tail strobes.
I deff saw a HSE deauville photod in Ireland somewhere.

            • 2500?? thats biscuits!! Yeah my mate warned me away from the GS ones alright. Couple HSE ones in East. There used to be two in UCHG, but they were lying idle for something like 4 or 5 years under a dust sheet in the ambulance base. Terrible waste. Don't know what came of them. Pity, They were lovely machines. Got one or two runouts in the entire time. All thats left of them is an Arai helmet (mint with comms still in it) thats used for training purposes.

I know one of the Galway bikes(Paneuropean) was converted into a short wheelbase model soon after the user completed the Garda Advanced motorcycle course. Seems the powers lost interest after that in the whole paramedic on a bike idea.

Yeah it's a pity. Although hopefully with the roll out of Advanced paras and now the way the idiots in charge are talking about A+E closures, the bikes might make a reappearence soon.

It's been proven in London that they make a huge difference both in response time and and play a vital role in getting the patient treated within the 'Golden hour'

Mind you, wish in one hand, shit in the other as they say!

Came accross 1 x XS 400 & 3 x XS 500'S. They have no registration numbers on them & 2 look like they never had plates fitted, also speedo on one reads 00000 miles.

They are all in rough condition.

                    • Hmm, Zero mileage speedo on old bike usually means new speedo.

Are the green? Sounds like the wing are getting new bikes too!

I think you are confused about what an XS400 is.

Yep! I only work on 4, or more, wheel vehicles, but I thought these were the trials bikes the wing use, obviously not, so enlighten me.

                            • The XS was the bike used by the Military Police and Presidential escort before the Kawasakis arrived.

By god that picture takes me back! Those bikes were being sold off when I first went to 2nd Field S&t after leaving the Apprentice school.

There were several that were sold as bare frames after being stripped while in the scrap yard. Amazingly the lads found all the parts after buying the frames for next to nothing.
