Do they have a "wartime" role, or purely for EoH?
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
      Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

          • I don't know, things can get fairly nasty over in that corner of the brugha when the truckers start taking over parking spaces.

The good news is, 2020 will see 48 or so mint 2009 Deauvilles appear on the second hand market.
            Must reactivate my etenders login.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

It will be the same story as when the blue '98 Deauvilles were boarded, the green ones will start cropping up in Honda dealerships who'll ask mad money for them

              • I'd be happy to pay. A well maintained bike with under 5000 genuine km on the clock? Given that Honda stopped making them in 2014 they'll be snapped up. If I didnt already have one with 50000 miles on it, I would consider.

Why are they being got rid of?

                  • Just had a glance at the specs. Quite vague (compared to the recent Garda Tender) however one or two things do jump out.
                    • The old Deauvilles must be taken by the successful bidder as Trade in. Nobody but honda will want to do this.
                    • No heavier than 250KG (plenty of options)
                    • Fully laden minimum ground clearance of 130mm (rules out many makes)
                    • Liquid Cooled 600 to 800cc no greater than 55kw. (this narrows the field even more)
                    • Large seat and full length mudguards (no enduro style, no mention of screen)
                    • Minimum fuel capacity of 10 litres (an even narrower field)
                    • Tyres can be changed with onboard toolkit (you'd be surprised who this rules out)
                    • Demonstrators will be expected by Monday next.

My money is on the NC750 in some version. MPs already use them. Ugly as sin. Chain drive.
BMW in any shape is ruled out. F800 GT is too powerful, likewise F750GS (coming soon to a garda station near you) which also lacks the full mudguards.
Yamaha Tracer 700 is an outsider, if they consider the tail piece makes a sufficient mudguard. Nothing worse than the escort throwing road crud onto the windscreen of a visiting VIP limo during an irish summer.
Suzuki Bandits are just over the weight limit. V-Strom, could make the grade, but none of them are designed to plod about at 30-40km/h.

They take the toolkits/owners manuals out of the bikes when they arrive so the "Tyres can be changed with onboard toolkit" makes no sense to me, cant see a DR removing a wheel and tyre on the side of the N81 when he/she wont have a spare with them

These aren’t DR bikes (that would be carrying paperwork etc) these are the Escort of Honour bikes

Indeed I am! Spare bikes are brought along on every EOH so the need to change a wheel on the fly outside the Aras isnt going to come up too often

The EOH bikes aren't only used for escorts, I've been out of them solo countless times
