Obviously you don't get sarcasm.
You will not get issued with PLCE, sleeping bags, monoculars or anything of the sort. To be honest, you don't need half of it. The best things you could get would be extra t-shirts & socks.
Wait & see if you're still here in 6 months before spending money on anything else."The dolphins were monkeys that didn't like the land, walked back to the water, went back from the sand."

do any RDF members bother with knee pads and elbow pads!?? jesus, you must look like Delta force on manoeuvers!!!"He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

I dont know if this is gonna help the kneepad sellers, but I have seen some people get a pair of Snickers Work trousers...the type used by builders..and take the kneepads out of them and sew them into the combat trousers.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Might I suggest that you sell dryseal bags. I saw some PDF using them on the PSO in 1 Bde last year and they are far superior to ziploc bags. A 20 litre version costs about €20 and fits perfectly into a backpack.Attached Files

what kit do you use?
Do you have pro-tac webbing, plce, the issued or the operational vest?
Do you have the parade boots or hiking boots or are you lucky enough to have matterhorns?
What piece of kit do you feel is the most important you have or your best buy?( don't say your weapon)
Finally what piece of kit do you wish you never got and it was all money down the drain?( again don't say your weapon)
And what in your own opinion are the advantages/disadvantages of the various items of kit mentioned? It is only by contemplation of the incompetent that we can appreciate the difficulties and accomplishments of the competent.

I have surplus British PLCE,which fits me like a comfy vest.
I have the earlier issued combat boot, not the barrack boot, and not the matterhorns. Fit like a pair of comfy slippers.
Best piece of kit is my RAF foul weather raincoat. Light enough for a light mist, heavy enough for a hurricane(as tested)followed closely by goretex gloves(which superseded my British Army NI glove, which abseiled once tooo often..)
I remember getting a combined mini maglite holder/penknife holder/ compass holder, in Irish DPM from Protak. Then I read the current admin in the field arrangement which makes my overpriced pouch obsolete.
I also got Sterling SMG canvas slings, which I thought would make great combat slings for the FN or Bren. They didnt fit the FN,and we never take the bren on exercise any more...
The priority is being able to carry out your duties in comfort, whether it be escort on the range,or a 72 hour exercise. No point looking the part if you are uncomfortable.Fail to prepare....prepare to FAIL!
