    Swords

    Are the ceromonial swords that Naval Officers carry the same as our land lubber Officers carry?
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    No, they look similar, but are different. Consult TM628 - The Manual of the Sword for the specs of each.

    We need some defence against the pikemen!
    It is only by contemplation of the incompetent that we can appreciate the difficulties and accomplishments of the competent.

    No. They are also used to butter toast and steer the ship.

    What do you think?

    The belt is entirely hidden and hooked through a slit in the tunic at about 3" above the waist belt. They are made by Wilkinson sword and yes they are ornamental but the point is still quite sharp and would be extremly dangerous if someone had a mind to inflict injury.

    I'd feel safer with THIS type of PLCE covering my back...

    Apparently at the outset of WWI, officers on some RN ships sent their swords to the engine room to be sharpened. Even then they were preparing to fight the last war.

    In the NS the sword is worn suspended from a belt which is worn under the jacket, the hilt being under the left elbow. In the RN the sword is carried in the left hand while suspended on two long straps hanging from the waist belt. It is said that the RN officers are in disgrace since the Spithead and Nore mutinies.

    I often wondered why some in the BA wear the sword under the greatcoat.
