    Well if the Canadians can have a ship named the Shawinigan I think the name for the next Irish Naval ship should be the L.E. Shananigan .

        Yeah the Eithne aint pretty short stubby bow....gun deck looks outta place and she seems to be bent upwards in the middle...although she is prettier that some of the russian krivak class corvettesand some osa class FPBs....Mow the PVs thats a different story ...they even look sleek!

          German Navy Minesweepers Galway Visit

          Hi Guys

          Two German Navy ships from the 3rd minehunter squadron "M1058 Fulda" and "M1060 Weiden" will visit Galway from Friday the 27th June until Tuesday the 31st June.
          The ships will be open to the public on the Saturday and Sunday from 2-5pm, the German Navy last visited Galway in 1992 when over 5,000 people toured the visiting ships.

          Will post pictures on Galway Ships Website next week

            She is bent upwards in the middle as are all the decks below from midships forward.
            There was a cargo crane port side on the gun deck which was removed befor the ship was handed over.
            Don't spit in my Bouillabaisse .

              It was there after handover..but it rusted away...Nothing to do with foreign ships though...(hint:keep it a little on topic)

                The finnish Minelayer FS Pohjanmaa and the Swedish Naval Training vessel HSwMS Carlskrona will be visiting Cork this weekend.

                Also due is the French Fisheries Patrol vessel Sterne.

                    I am also expecting HMAS Anzac sometime in june also. She is currently in Spain,and will be in the UK for the Trafalgar celebrations.

                        Nice pics Goldie, that Finnish ship FS Pojhanmaa appears to have X and Y turrets. does it have A and B turrets too? Have not seen that kind of configuration for ages.

                          Its main armament is the same as Eithne,a 57mm also in the B position.



                          The X and Y armament is 40mm


                          as well as at least one of these on the waist

                              I understand she is classed as a Minelayer. I presume this is what they are for. The scandanavians are fond of that kind of thing,and Karlskrona had similar,though larger doors.

                                Further updates on the Cork Visits, 22 Jun 05 FGS Köln F 211 Cork. Reading elsewhere there is a Pakistani vessel due around the same time.

                                Meanwhile,Our ships are far afield this month also.
