Replacement NSR Launch / New NS Port Security Launches

These vessels, despite their age, are tools for a specific police action and show the flag in Gib. Our NSR need craft to hone modern seamanship skills, and develop the situational awareness that is part of being safe at sea. The vessel suitable to their needs would be similar to the Archer, or an Offshore cabin craft, or something in the Pacific range of RHIB. Their main task is training to a level that would make their crews usable at sea on our ocean going vessels , and keep them safe up to sea state 6, and operate in sea state 4.

Their is nothing stopping NSR lads from getting courses in the Naval BTC. Or is there, the topic of training is over on the NSR commissioning thread buts more like a bashing of NSR officers. As said in the other thread why dont they do a yacht masters course?. I must look it up but on both threads it seems to suggest that there must be a particular rank that drives a boat and a rank that commands it and a rank that controls it all. So what would they be, if someone could draw a comparison to a mowag it might help us understand.

Many NSR officers have gone about doing Yachtmaster courses, only for their motor launches to be taken from them. One time they had sailing boats too, ideal for gaining experience at sea, but of no military use, except for training boarding parties how to board yachts without upsetting the yacht club types.For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

I found in the archives a photo of two of the recently retired NSR motor launches. Possibly Aine Laoi and Freya. STY Tailte on the outside is also a Naval Asset and may have been used by the NSR at some stage, along with Creidne and Nancy Bet.Attached FilesFor now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

I seem to remember in one of the parades through Dublin there was a NS RHIB with a GPMG Mount.

Its what the US Navy use as a force protection boat.

Should the NS formally declare its intention that it wants to the NSR to operate in a harbour police role, then the NSR is no longer compatible as an actual reserve. The Inland Fisheries and indeed the customs already operate vessels to undertake inshore operations , if there is an extra level of protection , the NS provide it with CPVs .
Unless the NS wants to go down the road the RN takes with declared and recognized training squadrons , which btw are not about reservists in the main, a spend on this type of craft without an actual operational role is to say the least wasteful .Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe
