@ The real Jack:
Thanks for the heads-up. Thought that the HLPPG would mean they're responsible for all major decisions regarding kit and equipment.
I'll try to ask my contacts in detail about the special budgets and possible decisions.
In most of our German units it's probably the same as in Ireland. Every platoon has it's gear in the basement, stored for specific scenarios.
Other units such as SOF units or for example german para rescue jumpers have different kit or even a budget from which every soldier can
individually order/buy kit.

If it's not confidential: Who's currently the manufacturer/supplier of the IPLCS/body armour? Afaik not ProTac, maybe LOWE? I'd like to contact the company to ask them for some information.German citizen

It's gotten to the stage where lads with certain roles in the big Units are starting to buy their own daysacks and even chest rigs because the issued stuff just isn't upto the task.
I won't even get started on the clothing side of the house, wetgear that barely qualifies as water resistant, nevermind water proof, says it all.Last edited by Fridge Magnet; 27 February 2016, 21:47.

i've mentioned it before, but when i went to Bosnia in the early 1990's, my TA unit spent about a thousand pounds on gear that my QM and OC could send me in with a clear concience... having faced this same 'you want me to wear what...?' issue, you have my sympathy.

Regarding the German army, not everything's so fabolous as people outside Germany might think.
For example, this is the load carrying equipment we get issued in basic and special basic training.
Even thou we have special gear for special guys, still 185.000 of these have been bought last year...
I've been in contact with DeV about a survey I set up for my business plan with question concerning kit and what you as members of the PDF/RDF would buy etc.
He gave me an okay to move on, unfortunately I can't open a new thread for this, so I post this here. If an admin/mod see's this, it would be awesome if you
could start a new thread with an appealing heading so that as many people as possible answer the survey. Please feel free to forward it to your comrades outside of this forum.
The survey is totally anonymous, even IP's won't be collected etc

Coming soon: Flame resistant quick drying UBACS ,better quality DPM baselayers, Lightweight GDR for NS made from "defender m"."Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

The Pentagon said on Friday it awarded $75 million for the creation of an institute organized by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to develop high-tech fibers and textiles.
The Revolutionary Fibers and Textiles Manufacturing Innovation Institute will be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and bring together a consortium of 89 universities, manufacturers and non-profits, the Pentagon said in a news release.
