Stop press** DJ4 is no longer purchasing ANY type of safe toe boot except for the corps who need them most IE Whingineers and drop shorts.Normal issue of safe toes will continue to all as normal until stocks deplete EXCEPT for those deploying overseas/NBG and PDF/RDF pers attending tactical ,skills and career courses. Those pers will be issued soft toe boots**"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

Haix Tibet boots
With the hooks rather than the loops as on the issue boots
I got a set of these before I managed to get an issue pair for a course I did"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. They were issued because there isn't a size 11 boot (haix/magnum) to be got anywhere in the DF at the moment. Those, along with the magnum Vipers were a UOR purchase."Let us be clear about three facts. we (RDF infantry unit) were told that we couldnt get tactical HAIX issue boots for the recent 72 hr ex in the FOB in the glen, that the barrack boot magnum is a "light operational" boot and would be acceptable instead.
we were expected to carry out a small movement by foot from the admin legeur to the FOB carrying everything, over lobawn, into bog holes, through mud, by cavanaghs gap, down scree slope at black scar and into stranahealy... in light ops boots. My bergin and battlevest had a combined weight of 40+kg for this little soiree over a mountain in complete darkness. One guy was rescued because the GPMG wedged in the mouth of the sinkhole that opened up under him. his boots never touched the ground and only his arm wrapped around it kept him from disappearing completely.
Absolute money pinching ****ery."He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

came down from senior staff members in PDF BN, we were also fed the usual poo that this was a 48hr ex not a 72hr ex, after 3 other stories of drivers being turned away from main stores empty handed looking for kit requested on clothing forms that should have been shipped back to our home HQ barracks. sick of it at this stage."He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."

personally, if crap like this goes on - lack of mountain boots, lack of waterproofs etc.. i'd just buy my own. anyone who relies on other people to determine whether the need, or get, something as important as decent boots for doing the kind of ex Morpheus describes needs their head looking at.
do you guys have such things as Service Complaints?
letter to a TD might be in order - photo's of the landscape/terrain included?
