I do believe that it is quite feasible to deploy two vessels bearing in mind the gravity of the situation . However Crew rotation would then become an extremely important factor.
The thing to remember is that very soon Malta will be in position to deploy a very capable vessel to the area with a crew that will reflect the same type of capabilities we currently have on site.
Its going to get worse before it gets better, at least until someone can stop these people even getting into boats.Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe

Originally posted by whirlywindLooking at recent pictures and newscasts of naval personnel on duty in the Mediterranean it was noticeable how inappropriate the blue “undress” uniform is. This has been evident since the early days of Eithne’s southern sojourns. Has it ever been considered that a khaki type would be more smart and suitable in those climatic conditions? This is not a criticism of the personnel but rather a chance to improve their environmental well-being.

i notice in the video section of ns facebook of recent rescue / tragedy that the 50cal is on its mount, is this because they were so close to libyan coast and were prepared for trouble i wonder because i heard that during one of the first ops a few weeks ago two small fast craft with some tooled up threatening looking dudes gave chase to niamh when she had a deck full of migrants, anyone else hear that?

Mention here of either the Roisin or Sam Beckett being the next ship to rotate down to the med. Personally I'd like to see Sam down there if only for the extra deck space.
Ireland will send a third Naval Service ship to assist the Mediterranean migrant rescue mission within weeks.

However, the Government is hoping that the dispatch of a fourth vessel will not be necessary, given the predicted deterioration in Mediterranean weather over the autumn, which will dramatically reduce the activity of people smugglers.
Either the LE Róisín or LE Samuel Beckett is expected to be dispatched from Haulbowline Naval Base in Cork within weeks to replace the LE Niamh off the north African coast.
Defence Minister Simon Coveney said the crews of LE Niamh and LA Eithne had performed heroics there, rescuing more than 5,000 people, including 367 migrants whose vessel capsized last week.
"These ships and their crews have undertaken difficult and demanding missions with incredible professionalism and skill," he said. "But that is precisely what we have come to expect from our Naval Service."
Counselling is being provided for LE Niamh's crew by two medical support and chaplaincy staff. Counselling will also be offered when the mission ends to prevent post-traumatic stress disorder.
